Multitasking Manuscripts
For so long, I told myself that I would only work on one manuscript at a time, but as the year begins, I find myself with three projects on the go. This post will act as a guide to my current work, as I chip away at creating a writers website for my work. I will be referring to these projects not by name, but as Project: blank, so as not to reveal too much. So, let us begin with my most developed project, Project Sea Witch.
Project Sea Witch
Project Sea Witch is a nautical high fantasy with a romantic subplot, currently in its third draft, sitting at 107,337 words, and 52 chapters. It is the first and only manuscript I have completed a full draft of, and I am hoping to complete more drafts this year to prepare to query the manuscript. As you can imagine, this project was the one that inspired me to start the blog you are reading right now.
Project Sea Witch is the story of a melancholic but charismatic Pirate King who has been on the same mission for ten years. When the Pirate King meets a mysterious woman who wishes to join his mission, he begins to uncover more and more secrets about the world that surrounds him; and eventually learns that the mysterious woman on his mission is a siren with magical powers.
Over the course of the story, the Pirate King and the Sea Witch begin to fall for one another, while going on unexpected adventures to right wrongs committed years and years before either of their lives began.
This project is my passion, and it consumes so many of my thoughts. As I have completed a few drafts, I have been working towards creating an arc for a multi book series; which leads me to my next work in progress, Project Prophecy.
Project Prophecy
Project Prophecy is the sequel to Project Sea Witch, a story that picks up directly after the events of the first, it follows the same Pirate King and his crew from the previous book; this time as they attempt to fulfill a mysterious prophecy assigned to them by a prophetic Princess.
The concept for Project Prophecy has been with me since I have been working on the first draft of Project Sea Witch, and as I go into my third draft of Project Sea Witch, I have begun writing Project Prophecy. Currently, I only have a prologue and one chapter so far, but the entire novel is plotted from beginning to end, and I plan to slowly chip away at the first draft while I refine my first manuscript. Currently, Project Prophecy sits at 2500 words and two chapters, but I am aiming to hopefully get a first draft done this year.
This book will also be high fantasy with a romantic subplot, and after a while of working on two stories in the same genre, I have begun to crave a whole new one. This leads me to my next project, Project Mistwick Hill.
Project Mistwick Hill
Project Mistwick Hill is a blend of dark academia, small town mystery, historical fiction, and horror; currently sitting at 13,360 words and seven chapters.
Set in the 1960s, Project Mistwick Hill follows a young girl who moves to a small coastal town in Canada to attend her dream University. Once enrolled in school and the Autumn term has commenced, our young protagonist begins to question the history of the school she attends, after bouts of sleepwalking and strange dreams.
Partially inspired by my own experience doing my undergraduate degree, plotting the Project Mistwick Hill manuscript from front to back has been incredibly fun, and I hope to finish a draft of this within the year.
Writing in a new genre has been a delight, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come for Project Mistwick Hill.
Final Thoughts
This post is a bit more informal than my usual, but I hope someone out there enjoyed reading about what current projects I have on the go. Hopefully next time you’ll be hearing from me will be about a writers website, as I have just acquired seawitchletters.com and am working on transforming it into a more comprehensive writing site.
Until then, happy reading, writing, and everything in between,
Love, your favourite sea witch, Evi ⋆ ˚。⋆୨♡୧⋆ ˚。⋆
